This is Me

About Nat Burns

Hi, it’s me again. This time I’ll brag on myself a bit. I’ve lived a long time and have done a lot of cool stuff. I’m an award-winning novelist who publishes, on average, one book a year.

My life has been devoted to the written word—whether poetry, fiction, or journalism. I retired in 2007 as editorial systems coordinator for a medical publishing firm and now write full time.

Over the past thirty years, my work has appeared in dozens of publications across a wide range of genres. I’m perhaps best known for my romance novels, such as Two Weeks in August and Lights of the Heart. Bella Books currently carries ten of my titles in circulation, with additional titles published through Regal Crest and Desert Palm Press. In total, I’ve released fourteen recent books.

My roots are also in speculative fiction. I honed my skills with the SF/F/H-focused Small Press Writers and Artists Organization, and later turned to journalism, earning two Virginia Press Association awards. My fiction has received honors from Writer’s Digest, Muse Magazine, and several Virginia writing groups.

In medical publishing, I rose quickly to become managing editor of two journals and later coordinated editorial systems for a Washington DC-based scientific publication.

Alongside writing, I’ve been active in mentoring youth, teaching journalism and creative writing, and judging young author competitions. I’ve also served on boards for the Golden Crown Literary Society, the Nelson County Education Foundation, and Literacy Volunteers of America, among others.

In my editorial career, I’ve worked on dozens of books including anthologies and memoirs. Currently, I write full-time from my home in beautiful Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the high desert landscape continues to inspire me.
